When Sunnyvale School District was looking to provide refreshed, light-filled spaces for students and staff to learn and collaborate, they turned to Blach + QKA to upgrade the school’s facilities with their patented, prefabricated Folia building solution.

The Sunnyvale Middle School project includes two new, two-story buildings, complete with spacious, adaptable classrooms and collaborative flex spaces to accommodate the school’s growing student population. Utilizing Folia, and its efficient prefabrication process and customization capabilities, enabled the District to ensure this project will complete efficiently, as scheduled, in approximately one year.

A critical advantage of Folia came when the team faced challenges early in the project relative to the procurement of structural steel, a long-lead item. Blach coordinated with structural engineer, GPLA — another Folia partner. Their combined efforts expedited fabrication, enabling them to secure timely DSA approval and ensure the project remained on schedule.

Currently under construction and slated to complete in time for the 2025-26 school year, the new Sunnyvale Middle School Folia buildings will enhance the campus with 23 classrooms, five student breakout areas, an art classroom, one teacher collaboration space and an outdoor courtyard.
