Dedicated to supporting Lynbrook High School’s robust science programs, the Rocklin Science Center is an adaptable and durable two-story, 12,000 sq.ft. custom Folia building. It features six science classrooms with lab spaces and two prep areas. Maximizing efficiency and collaboration, the two prep areas – one on each floor – are strategically situated at the back of the building, connecting all three classrooms on each floor and ensuring ease of access from the classrooms for students and teachers alike.
Unlike the standard two-story Folia floorplan, which is L-shaped, the Rocklin Science Center is a singular stand-alone building. It is the second building of this type Blach + QKA has designed and built for FUHSD. The first was erected at Cupertino High School as part of a larger Folia Complex. Additional customizations for LHS include brick veneer, enabling its exterior to blend seamlessly with the rest of the LHS campus and a custom elevator, designed specifically for the standalone structure.
Erected in just under one year, the Rocklin Science Center was named for the late Roy Rocklin, Ph.D. He was a retired analytical chemist who taught science at LHS for ten years, then served on the FUHSD board for seven years and was pivotal in defining requirements for the new, state-of-the-art facility prior to his death.
