The MUSD Innovation Campus is a first-of-its-kind education and workforce development center designed to provide future-ready learners with a wide range of programming aimed at aligning student needs with career opportunities.

To accomplish MUSD’s aggressive schedule and budget objectives, Blach + QKA utilized Folia, not only to facilitate speed of design, permitting, and overall construction, but also because it is a highly flexible and durable building solution. Additionally, Folia, delivered via Lease Leaseback, was instrumental in avoiding supply chain issues and offering significant budget and schedule efficiencies.

Built in phases on the site of the former Samuel Ayer High School, the MUSD Innovation Campus comprises six new two-story Folia buildings. Phase one, including four of the six buildings, opened in August 2023 after just nine months of building construction and record rainfall. Currently in the final phases of construction, which will have taken just eight months, the last two Folia buildings will be complete by July 2024. Collectively, the unique campus features 43 classrooms, nine STEAM labs, experiential career simulation facilities, multiple indoor flex and outdoor collaboration spaces, as well as offices and conference rooms. It serves as home to the MUSD District Office, Adult School, Cal Hills alternative/continuation school and the Milpitas High School Extension campus.

Delivered on both budget and schedule – and with zero change orders – the Folia-based MUSD Innovation Campus is well on its way to serve more than 2,700 students daily across a wide range of continually evolving educational programming. The adaptability demanded by the Campus will be easily met by the flexible and durable Folia solution. As MUSD Superintendent Cheryl Jordan said, “The flexibility of Folia is key to a core vision for the project: to continually create a world of opportunity for learners of varying ages, skill levels and interests.”
